Pediatric chiropractic · Newborns through adolescence
A healthy nervous system is the best head start you can give them.
Children aren't small adults. Their nervous systems are developing rapidly, and the stresses that accumulate — from birth, from falls, from sitting, from growing — can affect how that development unfolds. Pediatric chiropractic care addresses those stresses early, so the foundation is solid.
At Confianza Wellness, Dr. Jen uses Torque Release Technique with pediatric patients — a low-force, instrument-assisted method that's gentle enough for a newborn and precise enough to make a real difference. Visits are calm, and kids tend to tolerate them well.
Why it matters
The nervous system develops fast. Interference compounds.
The birth process — even a straightforward one — places significant physical stress on a newborn's spine and nervous system. Positioning in the womb, the mechanics of delivery, and the transition to life outside all create tension that the infant's body has to organize around.
When that tension isn't addressed, the nervous system adapts. Sometimes that shows up as colic or difficulty latching. Sometimes it's sleep disruption, recurring ear infections, or a baby who only wants to turn their head one direction. Older children may present with posture issues, frequent headaches, or difficulty with focus and sleep.
Chiropractic care doesn't treat these conditions directly — it addresses the nervous system interference that may be contributing to them. When the nervous system is functioning well, the body is better equipped to regulate itself.
What parents usually want to know first
Is this safe for my baby? Yes. The pressure used in pediatric TRT adjustments is no more than you'd use to check the ripeness of a tomato. It is gentle, specific, and appropriate for every age from day one.
Do they need a diagnosis first?
No referral or diagnosis is needed. Many families come in without a specific complaint — they simply want their child's nervous system checked as part of regular care, the same way they'd see a pediatric dentist.
How long are visits?
New patient visits are 45 minutes. Dr. Jen will take a full history, assess the child, and walk you through her findings before anything happens. Follow-up visits are shorter — typically 15 minutes or less.
By age group
What we're looking for at each stage
Nervous system stress looks different depending on the age of the child. Here's what typically brings families in at each stage.
Newborns · 0–12 months
Birth stress and early development
The most common window for a first pediatric chiropractic visit. Even calm births create physical stress that can affect feeding, sleep, and comfort.
- Difficulty latching
- Colic and excessive crying
- Reflux and digestive discomfort
- Head preference (torticollis)
- Sleep disruption
- Flat head (positional plagiocephaly)
Children · 1–10 years
Growing bodies, accumulating stress
Falls, sports, heavy backpacks, and hours of sitting add up. This is also when postural patterns begin to establish themselves.
- Recurring ear infections
- Frequent headaches
- Growing pains
- Posture concerns
- Sleep difficulty
- Sports injuries
- General wellness maintenance
Adolescents · 10+ years
Growth spurts, screens, and sport
Adolescence brings rapid physical change alongside increased screen time, academic stress, and athletic demand — a significant load on a developing spine and nervous system.
- Neck and back pain
- Headaches and migraines
- Sports injury recovery
- Postural dysfunction
- Stress and sleep issues
- Scoliosis monitoring
The visit
What a first visit looks like
Bring the child. Bring your questions. The visit is 45 minutes and paced to whatever the child needs — there's no rushing.
01
History with the parent
Dr. Jen starts by talking with you — birth history, developmental milestones, what you've noticed, what you're hoping to address. She listens before she looks.
02
Assessment
A gentle neurological and postural assessment appropriate to the child's age. For infants this may happen while they're being held. Older children are usually examined standing or seated.
03
Report of findings
Dr. Jen explains what she found, in plain terms. You'll know exactly what she's seeing and what care she recommends before anything begins.
04
First adjustment, if appropriate
TRT adjustments for children are quiet and gentle. Infants often sleep through them. Older kids are usually curious — Dr. Jen explains what she's doing as she goes.
A note on safety
Pediatric chiropractic using TRT is low-force by design. The Integrator instrument delivers a precise, controlled input — there is no twisting, cracking, or manual thrusting. The pressure is gentle enough for a newborn on day one of life.
Dr. Jen has worked with pediatric patients throughout her career. She will not proceed with care she doesn't believe is appropriate, and she will refer out if a child's presentation warrants evaluation by another provider first.
